It was in the early 1970’s when a restless beach bum whom everyone simply called “Joel” decided for himself that life in the corporate world was definitely not for him. His complete name is Joel Magsaysay and he’s now known as the Bee-Man of Silang. It took him a special kind of determination to leave the comfort of a steady job and a promising future to pursue his dream. After leaving the corporate world, he learned that taking nhoney was a great direct source of energy for the physically taxing sport. Then, he started to explore life among farmers and rural folk and, in the process learned just what it takes to live that type of life. I can’t forget when he said: “The bee sting is a cocktail of protiens-one hurts, one lets your blood flow freely, and the rest encourages your immune system to work.”

In the early days, the name Corn was used by the United States and Canada for any grain but eventually, the term evolved to designate a particular grain, one known on other parts of the world from which it had its earliest beginning– maize. Corn is used as cornmeal. Cornmeal, which made of corn flour, plays a vital role in the staple diets of many countries around the world. It even replaces wheat in some countries to make bread as aa main ingredient. Examples are Mexican tortillas, atole and other dishes. But beyond the corn’s superior taste is the fact that it is packed full of vitamins and minerals. An ear of corn contains protein, vitamin A, thiamine, niacine, folate, vitamin C, iron, magnesium, potassium, carbohydrates, natural sugar and dietary fiber.
