Wild about Birds
Tuesday, September 29th, 2009Home to 7,107 islands and over 600 bird species, my country, Philippines, is said to be one of the best birding destinations in the world. With almost 200 species of bird life that are endemic to our archipelago. Horn bills and Doves can be spotted in the rich forests, wild ducks and egrets graze in marshlands, while warblers and munias can be glimpsed in grasslands. The migratory season from September to April also brings in waders and shorebirds to our coastal areas. Even urban landscapes are home to small birds like starlings and fantails. One would really learn to appreciate the balance of nature, the changing of seasons and tides, the beauty of bird life, the unique story each bird tells and sharing the benefits of birdwatching to non-birders. Birdwatching really is an excellent hobby.
